Leadership Update
After decades of faithful service, our founders Curt and Helen Braun have stepped down from the Board. Curt poured his heart into building personal relationships with so many of you from the very beginning. His legacy remains the foundation we continue to build on today. The remainder of the original Board remains intact, including Shelley DeVault, Dale Lommasson, Peter Khoo, Xiou Xiou.
In June 2024, the Board entrusted the role of Chair to Wendi Akers, who brings a deep commitment to our mission and a clear vision for the future. We know that for some, change can feel bittersweet, and we are deeply grateful for your continued trust as we walk forward together.
November Newsletter: Coats for Kids
In 2024 my husband and I traveled to Poland and that was the first time we got to meet some of the Ukrainian orphans who had been evacuated. This was a group of orphans that have special needs. Let me tell you, they are precious! At that time, although not in the best of conditions, they were safe and warm. Since that time, this group (along with many others) have been returned to Ukraine. Now they are in the middle of a war.
Last month, drones and missiles hit Ukraine’s power grid causing a fresh wave of outages in Zaporizhzhia and five other regions. Additionally, the grid operator is asking households to limit evening electricity use.
This leads to no heat at times or limited heat at best. These children must wear coats inside AND outside to keep warm. A good winter coat isn’t a comfort item here — it’s a necessity.
